Acupuncture originated in China over 2,000 years ago and is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. The word ‘acupuncture‘ describes a variety of procedures involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body by using a variety of techniques to maintain the body’s equilibrium by focusing on all the body’s aspects of wellbeing; physical, mental and emotional.
What is Five Element Acupuncture?
Five Element Acupuncture is far older than the standard version practiced by many acupuncturists. Standard acupuncture(also known as ‘Traditional Chinese Medicine’) is a simpler form of acupuncture developed in the 20th century by China’s Communists to provide a ‘quick fix’ for physical symptoms.
Five Element acupuncture is a more holistic approach that addresses deeper imbalances by re-aligning and unblocking energy throughout the entire body. By going deeper, it deals with emotional issues manifesting as physical symptoms.
How does it work?
This ancient treatment recognises that to treat a person’s health and/or wellbeing you must take into account that individual’s physical, mental and spiritual state to fully understand and treat the illness. Therefore, each treatment is totally tailored and unique to each individual, their situation, their lifestyle and their needs, as no two clients are the same.
We start by carrying out a traditional diagnosis (TD) to assess the areas of concern and to make sure there are no health issues or medication that could affect your treatment.
Once we’ve carried out a TD, your treatment will begin by inserting needles into specific points on the body. Depending on the concerns we’re treating, the needles may only be inserted for an instant to connect with the meridian point and then removed.
What does Five Element Acupuncture treat?
The World Health Organisation endorses the use of acupuncture for a wide range of conditions, including: Back pain, Joint pain, Headaches, Migraines, Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Asthma, insomnia, Arthritis, Irregular or painful periods, High Blood Pressure, Fertility, Feminine Health, Eczema, Gut Health, Digestive Issues, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Lupus and Diabetes. How many sessions do I need?
The frequency and number of treatments differ from person to person. Some people experience dramatic relief in the first treatment. For complex or long-standing chronic conditions, one to two treatments per week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required, usually eight to ten visits in total. A personalised treatment plan will be discussed during your initial visit.
