WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling is a procedure whereby a device, such as a dermaroller or dermapen device, is used upon the surface of the skin creating superficial punctures that stimulate a healing response. A professional microneedling treatment is intended to cause a degree of trauma to the skin. This trauma stimulates new collagen cells in abundance.
The ageing process, low body weight, regular intense exercise, smoking, drinking, diet and the environment all impacts collagen and elastin. By creating 1000’s of minor wounds the skin begins to heal itself, as would any wound in 3 stages.
Microneedling treatments are simple, safe and quick to apply to clients. Each treatment lasts around half an hour. Stimulates the production of elastin and collagen in the skin without causing damage. Microchannels created by minuscule needles enable greater absorption of active ingredients into the skin creating better results for your clients. These superficial breaks created by your microneedling device boost the skin’s repair system resulting in firmer and younger looking skin.
WHAT IS A DERMAROLLER / DERMAPEN?
A dermaroller is an incredibly popular skin needling device. It is a cylindrical drum shape surrounded by microneedles. The device creates superficial breaks in the skin when rolled upon it. The mild trauma caused to the skin encourages the growth of collagen fibres. A dermapen has identical utility but creates less trauma/smaller tears using an in/out injection like application instead of rolling against the skin; for this reason we prefer using a dermapen device.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How does it work?
Dermapen skin needling allows for precise and controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries” in the skin that triggers a whole cascade of events resulting in new collagen synthesis. The result is visibly smoother, firmer and younger looking skin with improved texture and clarity.
Who is not supposed to do Dermapen?
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Your skin is allergic (which is why we patch test)
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Bleeding disorder
- Usage of anticoagulants including Aspirin
- Have cancer or active cold sore
- Inflammation of the skin and skin infections
Why do I need more than one treatment?
Skin conditions are different and also skin for different ages differs. After 3 Dermapen treatments there will be a noticeable difference again depending on the condition treated. For rejuvenation 4-6 Dermapen treatments are recommended.
Is the treatment painful?
A topical anesthetic is applied 30-45 min before the treatment and therefore it is not painful, but there might be a slight discomfort.
What are the risks?
Slight swelling and bruising which subsides 3-4 days after treatment.
